Interpretation

Antibodies against thyreoglobulin are found in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (90%), primary myxedema (72%), Graves' disease (50-70%), colloidal goiter, nodular goiter (8%), adenomas and carcinomas (13-65%), as well as in healthy relatives (30-50%) of patients with autoimmune thyroiditis. They may also be present in pernicious anemia (27%), Addison's disease (28%), type 1 diabetes mellitus (20%). They can be detected in older women in healthy women (up to 30%) and in men (3 - 6%).
