Thrombospondin Type 1 Domain Containing 7A (THSD7A) antibodies

Indication

Suspicion of primary membranous nephropathy (PMN), previously idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN).

Method

Indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) with THSD7A transfected cells

Answer

The result is given as negative or positive. A positive result is followed by a titer.

Interpretation

Antibodies against THSD7A have been reported to occur in about 10% of the anti-PLA2R negative cases with membranous nephropathy (PMN). The antibodies are primarily of IgG4 subclass and seem to have high disease specificity. Antibody titers also appear to be associated with disease activity and follow the degree of proteinuria.
